Christine Sevier is the owner and founder of Creating New Hope. She grew up in the Bay Area, obtaining her BA in Psychology at John F. Kennedy University. She has spent ten years serving as a local Advocate, Case Manager, and as a Mental Health Counselor at John Muir Hospital. Creating New Hope was established by Christine Sevier out of necessity, as she was court appointed as her grandmother’s conservator due to the progressive nature of her Alzheimer’s Disease. Her many years in the social services field made her an expert at identify and navigating community resources. She is also a California Certified Administrator for Residential Care for the Elderly (RCFE). Making her an expert in senior placement.

Kennedy, she served as a member of the Elder Law Clinic working with clients to interview clients and help draft related estate planning documents. Madison graduated from California State University, East Bay in March of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Minor in Criminal Justice Administration.


Melanie Henry

Melanie’s background includes experience in social welfare, risk assessment, caregiver for seniors, DMV licensed Student Driving Instructor and Transportation Coordinator for the Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley. This ideal blend of background and passion uniquely qualified her to make her dream a reality and she opened the doors of the DCAC in 2019.

Melanie holds a B.A. in Welfare Studies from Western Sydney University in Australia. As part of her personal mission, Melanie provides awareness training seminars for physicians, healthcare professionals, law enforcement and local communities.  DCAC also engages in outreach activities for older adult communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

She continues to use her skills and knowledge she gathered while working on the Age Friendly Berkeley Project in her company that focuses on helping older individuals thrive in their communities. Her firm, The Aevus Group works with families and caregivers to help create holistic, thorough care plans with resource navigation.


Bill Essert

Bill is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and started Bay Area Grab Bar (BGB) borne out of his desire to create safe, artful living spaces for seniors seeking to enjoy security and independence at home. Each project’s unique challenges and a high customer satisfaction rating reinforce for Bill the importance of this work and the personal satisfaction of creating a safer home environment for seniors in our community.

Bill is also an Advisory Board Member for Pathway Home Solution and Home Renewed Ventures, and a Balance Ambassador for Zibrio. In his spare time, Bill  volunteers at Petaluma Hospice and Vintage House and continue to play his trumpet throughout the North Bay.


Lorna Van Ackeren

I am passionate about the level of care in the deliverance of services for the Older Adult in Contra Cost County (CCC). My educational background is in Gerontology and Public Administration. I am an avid proponent for services that help us not “age out” of our system. At Hillendale Home Care I work with the community and families of seniors in need of care to help a person “Age in Place” with dignity.

Currently, I have been appointed by CCC Board of Supervisors to serve on the Advisory Council on Aging, I am a member of the Commission on Aging for the city of Pleasant Hill, and serve on the Board of Directors for CCC Meals on Wheels.
